Course description: Healthy peristomal skin is the foundation for optimal use of adhesives after laryngectomy, facilitating successful pulmonary rehabilitation. This webinar will include an introduction to skin health including the structure and function of skin, research to identify challenges laryngectomy patients face and strategies to promote successful use of adhesives from experts in dermatology and laryngectomy.

Course objectives:
- Describe foundations of peristomal skin structure and function as well as common contributors to medical adhesive related skin injury and basic prevention techniques
- Analyze research to identify the challenges that laryngectomy patients face when wearing adhesives
- Identify basic strategies and routines to obtain a good adhesive seal around the tracheostoma to facilitate optimal use of heat-moisture exchangers and tracheoesophageal speech
